Research Services The Leavenworth Public Library has a wealth of research materials
open to the public. Because not everyone can come to Leavenworth to use
those resources, the reference staff provides a
limited research service. Typically, patrons send a letter or an e-mail
requesting that we perform a search for them. Upon receiving this, we will
assess whether we have the information they need. If we do not, we will
attempt to direct them to a source that will have their information. If
we believe that our resources might have the information they want, we
will then request a fee (see next section) and more information on their
research request. Once the fee is received, we will begin the search. Since
the reference staff have other duties, it may take
a month or two for us to complete your search. Some of the sources we have
available include the following:
Federal and State Censuses
Document searches, regardless of size of the search or actual information
found, are assessed a fee of $15.00. In the case of multiple searches or
particularly difficult searches, a larger fee may be requested. This fee
covers the time taken for the search, photocopies, and mailing charges.
Although we will need the fee before we begin the search, we will not deposit
the fee until the search is completed. All checks or money orders should be made payable
to the Leavenworth Public Library and sent to the address below. Please
note: Simply because we offer to conduct a search does not guarantee that
we will find anything, and the search fee is non-refundable.
In the case of photograph reproduction requests, if patrons come in and select
the photo themselves, the library charges a $10.00 service fee.
If the librarian conducts a search for the photo, there will be the usual
$15.00 fee. In either case, the patron will then need to work with the
designated photo studio to obtain a copy of the photo.
For more information on photograph reproduction please contact us.

When writing
your research request, please include
as much detail as possible. It is important to know exactly what kinds
of information you want. It is also important to know how much information
you want and how detailed that information needs to be. If you have any
preference for information type, you should also include that in your request.
Names, dates, locations, and any major events will prove invaluable, not
only in finding your information, but getting it to you in a timely manner.
If you have any other questions about our services, please feel free to
