New Web Page Goes Live!

After more than six months of hard work, the library’s updated web page debuted on May 6. The new color scheme, a dark green and brown, is consistent throughout the site. It also features the popular photographs of the current building and the Carnegie years.

The front page contains the latest news on programming and other happenings. The top of each page contains six headings under which  information can be found: About the Library, Library Services, Reference, Library Support, Library News, and Youth.

Some of the new changes and highlights are as follows:

  • The Reference web links have been updated and organized under fewer categories.
  • A new Kid’s Web contains links to sites that are appropriated for pre-school age children to teens. They are organized to help with your searching.
  • The On-Line Book Club link has been moved from the first page to the area under Services.
  • The links to the library’s on-line databases have been completely reorganized.
  • Many thanks to Dixie Vogel of DVogel.com  Web Consulting for her services!

Kansas Room Corner

Sign Up for Our Summer Photograph Contest!

The Leavenworth Public Library will be sponsoring a photograph contest later this summer. The details, including rules, deadlines, and a list of prizes to be awarded, will be announced at a later date.

Photographs Needed

Mary Kay Menard, the Kansas Room librarian, would like to add contemporary photographs of Leavenworth to the library’s historic collection. Fortunately, people in the community take and collect photographs of everyday events that are significant to Leavenworth’s history. However, many photographs taken with digital cameras and sent to people via e-mail may not be accessible a year from now, let alone one hundred years from now. These are still an important part of our history and need to be preserved.

If you have any original photographs of Leavenworth events, buildings, groups, or even people, please consider donating a copy of them to the library.

Thank You for Your Help

A big “thank-you” to Mitch Pence of Photographix Unlimited and Debra Bates-Lamborn of First City Photo for sharing their tips and knowledge with us at our recent programs. Their presentations were outstanding!
