  • Familysearch - Includes “how-to” information and basic forms.

  • Kansas State Historical Society - For people who have family with a Kansas background, the Kansas State Historical Society site may be of use. While there are not a large number of records available on-line, there are good explanations of what materials might be available in a personal visit.

  • Midwest Genealogical Center - Midwest Genealogy Center Building The Midwest Genealogy Center located at 3440 S. Lee's Summit Road, Independence, MO, is one of the nation's preeminent resources for family history. The largest free-standing public genealogy library in the United States boasts 52,000 square feet of resources for family history researchers.

  • NARA - What is the National Archives ? The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the nation's record keeper. Of all documents and materials created in the course of business conducted by the United States Federal government, only 1%-3% are so important for legal or historical reasons that they are kept by us forever.
    Those valuable records are preserved and are available to you, whether you want to see if they contain clues about your family's history, need to prove a veteran's military service, or are researching an historical topic that interests you.

  • Social Security Death Index - Searches can be limited by city, county, or state and modified by birth year, month or day. This site only works for people who were covered by Social Security and who are dead. The Ancestry site has a few records such as the Social Security Death Index that are free, but many more, such as the U.S. Census, that are fee-based.

  • Vital Records - Contains links to numerous sites containing access to birth and death records.

  • UsGenWeb Project - An easy-to-use quick way to orient yourself to resources available for a given state, county, or city. It does not include the resources themselves.
